Fishing on Tioga Pass, Yosemite
On the way from the Bay Area to Pasadena Casting Club where I was to give a tenkara clinic, I took the Tioga Pass Road rather than driving directly on Interstate 5 and risking the chance of getting stuck in traffic. I stopped and fished outside of the Yosemite National Park, where I met a Japanese tenkara fisher of a very old school. He was using a very long rod which is about 18' and very short line (about 7' or 8' long). He did not cast, just dapped. I also ran into a tenkara fisherman, Robert Boatman, from San Diego. He gave me some insect repellent otherwise I would have been eaten by mosquitoes.
